December's Dinner meeting was hosted by members Adam Federer, Mike London, Sean Baggitt, George Baggitt, Abbey Savage and Peter Donovan.  An Italian dinner was served which included pasta, sauce, tossed salad, garlic bread and desert. Thirty-eight hungry members were served dinner on this evening. January's Dinner Meeting was hosted by the culinary expertise of Roger Basset and his own crew of Iron Chefs! Attending members were treated to a dinner of a mixed bag of both red stag and venison. Good eats for all!

Fish, Game, Hunting, Shooting, Archery and BOWLING??

No gutter balls here folks! Well, almost none anyway.  Yes, you did read just that. It seems that a number of our fellow club members have taken up to bowling a ten pin format at the local alley.  Club members Bob Fratus, Ray Ertel and club associate Bob Borges have signed on to a number of various leagues and reportedly having a great time. According to our three musketeers it is also a great source of exercise! This is kind of a different road for these guys to travel as all three are regulars on the club trap range.  Next thing you will hear is that Perazzi makes bowling balls.

Cape Cod Fish & Game Donates

$500 Dollars To Harwich Food Pantry:

Bill West

While it is true that our organization was established to further the proliferation of hunting, fishing and natural resource conservation, there does come a time to think outside the box and give back to the community for which we serve.  In the past we have done this through various scholarship programs at the local vocational high school as well as providing our annual youth fishing derby to area youngsters each summer.  This year, in this down economy our Board of Director members decided that it was also our responsibility to help with the local food drive program. A motion was made seconded and passed to draft a check to the Harwich Food Pantry in the amount of $500 dollars to help support their efforts in providing food to area families who were in need.  This action, in addition to the consolidated efforts of you our members who have generously donated many non-perishable items have certainly helped many families this year.  Additionally, our combined success of our annual support of the Marines Toys For Tots toy drive certainly showed that our organization is a great neighbor to have. Please, let’s all make an extra effort this month and strive to keep this forward momentum going and help those that are less fortunate.

So as we have stated before… “Please be advised that the green tote in the clubhouse is for our monthly club food drive.  All members are asked to bring in a nonperishable food item.  All donations are delivered once a month to the local food pantry. Various can goods, pasta, rice are all excellent items to be donated to this program and anybody can afford a buck or two to help the less fortunate. On average we get about 45 to 50 people at each monthly business meeting. If every member in attendance pitched in just one item to donate to this worthy cause we would have quite a donation for the month.”

Trap Range Christmas Ham Shoot Not Just For The Birds.

Bob Bates Trap Range Chairman

True we just did have a Thanksgiving Trap Range Turkey Shoot.  So in a spirit of keeping with the holidays and in an effort to keep the momentum going we initiated our own first ever “Christmas Trap Range Ham Shoot!” On a very cold, Sunday of December 18th, our club hosted a gang of eager clay pigeon shooters all participating in a lucky bird format to win Christmas Hams! Our range shot eight consecutive lines of trap that morning.  Congratulations go out to our Ham winners.  They are Jim Gillespie, Dan Welch, Joe Bisson, Rusty Crocker, Jim Hartley, Andy Smith and George Baggitt.

All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Saturday Mornings at 10 AM, Sunday Mornings at 9AM as well as Friday afternoons at 12 noon. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets.  Non members will pay just a dollar more!  Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar. Everyone is welcome so come on down and join us for some shooting fun!

Each of these remaining three shoots will begin at 7AM and breakfast will be available. The club Archery Committee wishes to remind everyone that they are still shooting on the club’s indoor archery range each Wednesday Evening at 7:30PM.  Anyone with a compound bow, reverse curve or long bow is welcome. NRA Training

Peter Donovan

This month’s scheduled NRA Home Firearms Safety Course will be held Tuesday Evening, February 21st, 2012 at 7:00PM.  Anyone interested in ascertaining his or her firearms identification card (F.I.D.) or license to carry (L.T.C.) is encouraged to attend this invaluable course. Space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended.  Please contact Peter Donovan or George Baggitt at any club meeting. Last month our club hosted nine students.

Pictured above is Monica Botto. She's got brains, good looks, a motorcycle, a tactical shotgun and she is a graduate of our club's NRA Home Firearm Safety Course. That is a combination that is a tough act to follow!!  This month's NRA Home Firearm Safety Course will be offered on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012.

A Little Courtesy Won’t Kill You !!

All members are reminded that when you are finished shooting please clean up after yourselves and throw you debris in the proper containers.  Lately a small number of members and their guests have been leaving the range areas a shambles.  A little bit of extra effort thereby picking up your spent brass, removing your old targets and then disposing of both into the proper receptacles will go a long way. Please keep in mind that our range committee volunteers are there to help keep the property in good repair. They are not your personal janitors.

We Need Your Old Christmas Trees:

Now that the holidays are over and your former Christmas tree is fading from evergreen to what one might consider to be "ever brown", we ask all members to consider donating their disposed of Christmas tree to the club. Our pond committee wishes to recycle these trees to use them as structure in the club pound.  Members who want to remove their old trees from their backyard are asked to stack them beside the picnic tables in front of the clubhouse.

***PLEASE REMOVE ALL DECORATIONS, TINSEL AND LIGHTS IN ADVANCE!!! PLEASE UNDERSTAND FURTHER THAT THIS REQUEST IS FOR NATURAL TREES ONLY AND NOT THE ARTIFICAIL TREES SOLD IN THE DEPARTMENT STORES!!!

Close The Gate Department:

Sorry folks!  All members need to be reminded that the gate is to be closed and locked each time any member enters or exits the club facilities.  The only exception to this rule is when the club is open to a public event such as trap shooting, scheduled 3D Archery Events, turkey shoots, slug shoots and etc.

Regarding Workhours:

All new members who come into our organization during the 2012 - 2013 membership period are reminded that you are responsible to fulfill your obligatory four workhours.  Failure to do so will result in a $50 dollar assessment for the following year's dues.

Complaint Department:

Sorry folks!  I hate to have to announce this but a fellow member complained and our Board of Directors for whatever reason, felt compelled to respond. A motion was made and seconded to comply and by a vote of ten in favor and two opposed this motion was passed.  Therefore effective immediately all members are asked not to bring their dogs to the club Dinner Meetings.  If you detect an element of sarcasm on my part so be it!  Out of 285 members I was only able to collect the names of two individuals who came forward to put forth any interest to help paint the clubhouse floor.  It is hard to believe that there is a growing concern of dogs in the clubhouse then there is about a collective effort to maintain the club lodge.  Really, are we serious here!  Until next month………..Bob P.

November Slug Shoot A Real Blast:

Bob Preston

The November Shotgun Slug Shoot had a decent turn out as over 16 shooters competed for trophy prizes.  This annual event began about ten years ago as a way for members to get ready for the Massachusetts Shotgun Deer Season.  As always there were two categories to compete in.  The “Iron Sight Division” as well as the “Scope or Aimpoint Division.”  The results are as follows: The First Place Title in the Iron Sight Division went to Matt Yarnell.  Second Place was Mike London, Third Place was Mike Shamberg.  In the Scoped/Aimpoint Category, First Place went to Club President Jim Gillespie and Second Place went to Bob Preston. Congratulations to all our participants and trophy winners.

Trap Range Turkey Shoot Not Just For The Birds.

Bob Bates Trap Range Chairman

Well, actually it is!  In what has become an annual tradition at our club, the Sunday before Thanksgiving is once again the time frame of our yearly Trap Range Turkey Shoot.  This year our club hosted a gang of eager clay pigeon shooters all participating in a lucky bird format to win frozen turkeys. Our range shot ten consecutive lines of trap that morning.  To say the least it was a busy day as we opened the second range to accommodate a number of beginner shooters who just wanted to try the sport.  For some of these shooters this would be the first time they ever fired a shotgun.  Congratulations go out to our Turkey winners.  They are Jim Gillespie, Dan Welch, Joe Bisson, Rusty Crocker, Jim Hartley, Adam Preston and  George Baggitt.  Do to the success of this program we will be trying to implement a special Christmas Ham Shoot on the Sunday, December 18, 2011.  The format will be the same as the Lucky Bird Shoot held in November.  It should be noted here that our two trap ranges, which now feature brand new Pat Trap machines, seem to act as a magnet.  We are attracting shooters from all skill levels to come down and give trap shooting a try!  That’s okay as we are more than happy to accommodate them!

All members are reminded that Trap is shooting Saturday Mornings at 10 AM, Sunday Mornings at 9AM as well as Wednesday and Friday afternoons at 12 noon. The cost to shoot is a mere $3.00 dollars per round of 25 clay targets.  Non members will pay just a dollar more!  Our trap range is open to all whether you are a novice, a rookie, an expert or an ATA superstar.
